NU Women's Soccer Signs Six for 2011
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University women’s soccer coach, Erin Redwine, announced the signing of six student-athletes to attend and play for the university this fall. Included in the group are two junior college transfers and four incoming freshman.
Wilhelmina Giese (Seattle, Wash.), is a transfer from Bellevue College and will be a Communications major at Northwest. She was a 4-year varsity letter winner in soccer at West Seattle High School and Giese earned honorable mention All-Metro League honors and was a two-time, second team All-Metro League team member and first team All-Metro League team member in her senior year.
Kelsey Greene (Sherwood, Ore.), attended Sherwood High School, lettering in soccer and track & field. She was a member of the 2007 Sherwood High state championship team. In 2009, Greene was an honorable mention all-league defender and a second team all-league defender in 2010. Biology will be her major at Northwest U.
Patricia Hughes (Kalispell, Mont.), is a graduate of Glacier High School in Kalispell and was a four-year varsity letter winner in soccer, a three-year letter winner in basketball and earned a varsity letter in track & field. A 4.0 student, Hughes was a team captain in both soccer and basketball, a 2010 all-conference goalkeeper and 2009 all-state goalkeeper. She will major in Biology this fall.
Brielle Nicholas (Snohomish, Wash.), attended Snohomish High School and lettered in both tennis and soccer. She was named Outstanding Freshman in 2008 in tennis and was a two-time (2010 and 2011) All-WESCO North first team member in soccer. Nicholas was team captain for her soccer team in the 2011 season. Brielle will be a Communications major at Northwest.
Rachel Saleen (Boise, Idaho), played for Capital High School. In her junior season, Saleen was CPHS Forward of the Year. She was a two-time varsity team captain and was named all-conference honorable mention once and earned all-conference honors twice during her playing career at Capital High, a 5A school. Rachel is graduating a semester early in order to work for a non-profit organization in Spain and will also be traveling to Africa. Saleen will major in Nursing at NU.
Kaitlyn O’Neill (Oak Harbor, Wash.), has committed to play for the Eagles and attended Skagit Valley Community College this past year. She graduated from Oak Harbor High School and was a 3-year varsity letter winner in soccer and MVP in her junior year. O’Neill will major in journalism at NU.
“We are returning 15 players from last year - 9 starters,” commented Eagle coach, Erin Redwine. “This mature core will be joined by a talented recruiting class this fall. These six players are part of the incoming group. We’ll have 7 transfers who will be coming in with solid game experience and group of some exceptional, motivated freshman. I’m excited to have this group coming in as I feel they will be a great fit for the team and the university.”
Northwest finished the 2010 season with a 7-4-4 season record and a 4-3-2 conference mark and a 6th place finish, just one point behind Oregon Tech in 5th.
