Eagle Women Add Eight More for 2011

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University women’s soccer coach, Erin Redwine, announced the signing of eight more student-athletes for the 2011 season bringing the total of incoming athletes to fourteen.

Signing letters of intent to play for the Eagles are: Acacia Johnson (Orting, Wash.), Kaili Marie Bonn (Honolulu, Hawaii), Stephanie Brewer (Kalispell, Mont.), Samantha Shulock (Oak Harbor High School), Lindsey Field (Graham, Wash.), Annie-Brynn Stauffer (Spokane, Wash.), Shea Samuelsen (Woodinville, Wash.), and Sydney Davis (Puyallup, Wash.).

Acacia Johnson played her prep soccer at Orting High School, lettering in two varsity sports (basketball and soccer). She was a team captain, named 1A first team all-state in 2009 and 2010 and was named Nisqually League Player of the Year in 2009. In the 2010 season, Johnson scored a record 42 goals breaking the previous school record of 27. Johnson was also a 2008 1A all-state second team selection.

Kaili Marie Bonn played for Kapolei High School in Honolulu, Hawaii as her team played in the consolation bracket of the HHSAA State Championships. She was named to the 2011 first team OIA (Oahu Interscholastic Association) Red Division all stars. As a sophomore, Bonn was an OIA Red Division honorable mention selection and a 2nd team OIA Red Division honoree in her junior year. Bonn was also a Kamehameha Scholars Scholarship winner.

Stephanie Brewer graduated from Flathead High School and was a Western AA all-conference player in 2009 and ’10. She earned the Best Defensive Player Award at Flathead and was invited to play in the 12th Annual Shodair All-Star Classic.

Samantha Shulock earned varsity letters in soccer, softball and track & field at Oak Harbor High School and was an All-WESCO conference honorable mention selection as a goalkeeper. Samantha then entered Skagit Valley Community College following graduation from OHHS.  Shulock was a 2-year team captain at Skagit Valley and helped lead her team to the NWAACC post season tournament in 2008, their first appearance in school history.

Lindsey Field is a transfer from Treasure Valley Community College in Oregon and played varsity basketball and soccer at Graham-Kapowsin High School where she earned three varsity letters. She was a 2008 All-SPSL second team selection in 2008 as a midfielder. At Treasure Valley, Field was honored with a NWAACC Academic Leadership award and was a member of the All-Academic team.

Annie-Brynn Stauffer is a 2011 graduate of University High School in Spokane, Wash., and earned four varsity letters in soccer. She was a 2001 GSL (Greater Spokane League) All-league selection in 2010. Stauffer played club soccer for the Spokane Shadow Soccer Club.

Shea Samuelsen is a transfer from the University of Arizona and played her prep soccer at Woodinville High School. She earned three varsity letters in soccer during her high school career and was a Kingco 4A honorable mention selection. Shea was also named the team’s most inspirational player in her senior season. Samuelsen also played select soccer for the Crossfire Premier Soccer Club.

Sydney Davis earned six varsity letters in soccer and track & field at Rogers High School. She was a 2009 All-SPSL South second team member. She was a member of the 2010 WIAA state championship 4X200 relay team and also took part in the 100m, 200m, 400m dash events at Rogers HS.

Said NU Eagle head coach, Erin Redwine, “I am pleased and excited about this group of young ladies we are bringing into our program this season. These additions to our team will only give us more depth and experience and will prepare us for the future as we will graduate seven seniors this season.”

Redwine welcomes back nine starters back from last season’s team which finished with a 7-4-4 mark and only lost two seniors starters to graduation. First team All-CCC junior defender, Stephanie Cummins, returns along with goalkeeper Jordan Holmes and Abby Brauer, both CCC second team selections. Backing up Holmes in goal is senior Jessica Kane who started in 6 games and had 29 saves for the season. Senior defender, Kirstie Walton also returns having scored 4 goals in 2010 and started in 14 games.

The Eagles open their season on the road in southern California as they face two GSAC (Golden State Athletic Conference), NAIA Division I schools in Point Loma Nazarene (San Diego) and Concordia University (Irvine) on August 22 and 24. Their first home game is slated for September 1 when they host George Fox University from Newberg, Oregon.
