Keeper Amy Pierson headlines C of I's women's soccer 2011 class
CALDWELL, Idaho - College of Idaho women’s soccer coach Niki Taylor has announced the signing of nine student-athletes to NAIA Letter of Intents for the upcoming 2011 season.
The group includes eight freshman and one junior college transfer, with seven of the players hailing from the Gem State.
Highlighting the class is freshman goalkeeper Aimee Pierson from Quartz Hill, Calif. The product of Desert Christian High was the starting keeper for four years as a prep, helping her squad to a trio of California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Divisional championships and the 2009 CIF Division III title. Pierson, who also played for the Palmdale Thunder club program, was an All-Desert Mountain Conference and All-CIF selection.
The Lady Yotes will also add a trio of local players that recently won the U-18 state championship as part of the FC Nova club program. Midfielder Alex Suggs of Capital High, midfielder Lauren Stephens of Rocky Mountain High, and defender Katy Radko of Meridian High will head to Caldwell in 2011 – all three players earning All-Southern Idaho Conference honors as seniors. Stephens helped her high school squad to third-place finish in the 2010 5A state championships.
Transfer Brittney Lacey will return to the Treasure Valley after two seasons as a midfielder at Walla Walla Community College. The Capital High product helped WWCC to back-to-back Eastern Division and NWAACC championships.
Four others will comprise the recruiting class – Lauren Polito of East Lake High in Palm Harbor, Fla., Sarah Neufeld of Caldwell High, Anabel Maldonado of Blackfoot High, and Brianna Strodtbeck of Timberline High.
The Lady Yotes are coming off their third-straight 10-win season and their fifth-consecutive postseason appearance. The 2011 season begins on Sept. 3 vs. Northwest Nazarene.
