ASHLAND, Ore. -- For the sixth straight year, the Jackson County New Car Dealers Association has given $10,000 to the annual Raider Club Fund Drive.

The gift remains the largest annual donation to the Fund Drive, which goes to help student-athletes at Southern Oregon University.

"We feel very fortunate that once again the New Car Dealers have been very generous with their giving to the Raider Club," SOU Athletic Director Matt Sayre said. "That total represents more than half the cost of an in-state tuition and will go a long way in helping recruit and retain quality student-athletes to SOU."

The JCNCDA is made up of 16 new care dealers in Jackson County, including Airport Chevrolet Cadillac, Butler Ford Acura, Butler Hyundai, Butler Kia, Crater Lake Ford Lincoln Mercury, Crater Lake Mazda, Dollar Buick GMC, Medford BMW, Lithia Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Lithia Honda, Lithia Nissa, Lithia Toyota, Lithia Volkswagen, Mercedes-Benz of Medford, Southern Oregon Subaru Volvo Mitsubishi and Town and Country Chevy.

"SOU is such a great asset for our area and the Jackson County New Car Dealers are pleased to be able to participate in this scholarship program," JCNCDA President Alan DeBoer said.

SOU Athletics is coming off of one of its most successful years, finishing 29th in the annual NAIA Director's Cup standings. The Raiders featured the NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship and the NAIA Combined Cross Country National Championship. Also, the volleyball, wrestling and track and field teams advanced to the NAIA National Championships.

The 2011-12 athletic year for the Raiders gets started this week as the SOU volleyball team hosts NAIA national power Fresno Pacific Friday night at 7 p.m.
