AZUSA, Caif. - The Northwest University Eagles split their two matches this afternoon in the Cougar Classic Tournament at Azusa Pacific as they fell to The Master's, 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-21), in a 12 p.m. match and then rebounded with a sweep, 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-19), over Hope International in a 4:30 p.m. contest later in the day.

In the first match of the day, NU fell to The Master's, playing the Mustangs from Santa Clarita, Calif., in three close sets.

Sophomore Sarah Stoker (Olympia, Wash.) led Northwest (1-1) with 9 kills and 5 blocks. Teammate Heather Shulke (Jr., Castle Rock, Wash.) had 17 digs and junior Lauryn Ernster (Bothell, Wash.) contributed 17 assists for the Eagles.

In the second match against Hope International, sophomore Sarah Stoker led the Eagles (2-1) for the second straight match with 8 kills and 4 blocks. Junior Lauryn Ernster had a game high 24 assists and teammate Heather Shulke led the Eagles with 11 digs.

"We had a solid match against Hope in which everyone contributed," said Eagle coach, Jessie Dietrich. "I was gald to see us not only start with a lead in every set, but then extend the lead. We have two tough matches tomorrow with highly skilled teams and we look forward to the competition."

Northwest wraps up play tomorrow when they face tournament host and #6 ranked Azusa Pacific at 10 a.m. and Cal State San Marcos at noon before returning to Kirkland.
