KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University men’s soccer team will travel to Big Sky country next week to kick off their season with a pre-season training camp in Kalispell, Montana.

The team will meet on campus on August 7, and travel 10 hours to the Flathead Valley where they will be holding their first week of practices. They will be hosted by the Fischers' and Galbraiths', families of players Luke Fischer and Joe Galbraith. A total of seven Eagle players are from Montana.

The trip will be an opportunity for the team to get to know one another and to quickly bond. Thirty-one players and four coaches will make the trip. The week will consist of two-a-day practices, high school training for local players, a community service project (staining a playground), and spending time with youth during a lunch program. The trip will also include whitewater rafting, and a full day hiking in Glacier National Park.

"What a great time this will be for the team to be able to get away from the NU campus and to spend time learning about each other," commented Coach Gary McIntosh. "We get to serve in the community by working a labor project and then just spending some time with some under privileged youth through a lunch program sponsored by the Salvation Army. There will be some fun on this trip as we get to go whitewater rafting and hiking in Glacier National Park."

The Eagles return nine starters back from last season's club that finished the season 9-8-1 and a total of 22 players. Among the returnees, the Eagles have four All-CCC players: Luke Fischer (1st team All-CCC), Kyle Tatro (CCC Honorable Mention), Doug Whitney (CCC Honorable Mention), and Joe Galbraith (CCC Honorable Mention). Coach McIntosh also welcomes 16 new players, 5 freshman and 11 transfers to the NU team as well adding depth to the veteran team.

The Eagles play their first game on September 1 when they host Whitman College on the NU Athletic Field.
