NU Eagles Earn First Win of the Season
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The NU Eagles came back from an early 1-0 deficit to score three straight goals as they defeated George Fox University (Ore.), 3-1, in a non-conference game this afternoon on the NU Athletic Field. It was the first win of the season for the Eagles who dropped two non-conference games in southern California last week.
Cori Jo Young put George Fox up 1-0 with her unassisted goal in the 19th minute of the first half. George Fox would hold the Eagles scoreless for 24 minutes until the 42:21 mark when Jordyn Wilson made a nice move to lose a GFU defender and knock one in from 15 yards out in the center of the field.
Annie-Brynn Stauffer would get the game winner for Northwest U. two minutes later (44:29) and right before the end of the first half with her header off the GFU goalie's deflection.
The second half would remain scoreless until NU's Rachel Saleen would find the goal net from 15 yards out in the 83rd minute (82:42) just right of center off Abby Brauer's assist.
Northwest U. (1-2) out shot George Fox (0-1) 21-6 led by Jordyn Wilson's 4 shots. GFU's goalkeeper, Alyssa Montero had 3 saves in goal for the Bruins while NU's Jordan Holmes grabbed 3 saves for the Eagles.
"We found our rhythm today and the byproduct was goals," said NU head coach, Erin Redwine. "The girls worked hard and the win was well-earned. I'm very proud of the team for sticking together after getting down by a goal and scoring 3 unanswered goals."
Northwest U. will now head to Salem, Ore., for a Saturday afternoon match-up with Willamette University. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
