(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) Oregon Tech’s Meghan Drost had a hat-trick as The Lady Owls downed Northwest Christian University 4-0 in non-conference action Saturday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field. Oregon Tech picked up its first win of the season and improved to 1-2. The Beacons fall to 0-5 on the season with the loss.
Drost got Oregon Tech on the board in the 16th minute as she took a Molly Brabham pass right in front of the goal and chipped in over the outreached hands of the Beacons keeper to give Tech the early 1-0 lead.
The two teams would battle back and forth the rest of the half with no one else able to find the back of the net as OIT took a 1-0 lead into the half.
Just 3 minutes into the second half Meghan Drost set up Hayley Smith with a perfect pass across the middle, Smith then dribbled past two defenders and scored in the upper right of the goal to put the home team up 2-0.
Drost was at it again just nine minutes later as she chipped a shot over the keeper for her second goal of the day to put Tech up 3-0, Rebekah Nisbet and Veronica Steward were credited with a double assist on the play.
Drost picked up the hat-trick in the 81st minute taking a Jennifer Ramirez pass and scoring from 26 feet out giving the Lady Owls the 4-0 shut-out win.
Oregon Tech Freshman Goalie Rebekah Matteri faced 12 shots and had 5 saves in picking up her first collegiate win a 4-0 shut-out.
Northwest Christian Goalie Ali Foster kept the Beacons close making several spectacular saves in the loss. For the game Foster faced a total of 28 shots 12 on goal.
Oregon Tech Lady Owls will next host Simpson University at 5:00pm next Wednesday, September 14 at Trevor Derrah Field.
Northwest Christian will next play Trinity Lutheran in Everett, Washington also on September 14th.
