Late Goal Lifts Tech Past Linfield

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) The Oregon Tech Hustlin’ Owls battled back from an early 1-0 deficit and defeated the Wildcats of Linfield College 2-1 Saturday night at Trevor Derrah Field.

The Wildcats scored just 59 seconds into the game and then were held scoreless over the final 89 minutes as Oregon Tech scored a goal in each half including the game winner in the 85th minute and picked up their first win of the 2011 season improving to 1-2. Linfield slips to 1-2 on the season with the loss.

Cody Escott took a perfect cross from Tyler Sedlacek just 59 seconds into the match to give Linfield College the early 1-0 lead.

Oregon Tech got the equalizing goal just 10 minutes later as Victor Corona fed Ashton Betts who shot with his left foot moving across the goal from 15 feet away into the bottom left of the Wildcats goal to tie the game at 1.

The two teams headed into halftime tied at 1-1. Each team took 9 shots on the other team’s goal with both teams having 3 shots on goal for the half.

In the second half, Oregon Tech dominated time of possession and shots on goal holding a 10–1 advantage in the half before Tech finally broke through in the 85th minute when Gabe Rennels scored from 10 yards out to give the home team a 2-1 win. Dustin Hirata was credited with an assist on the play. For the game, Oregon Tech had a 19-10 advantage in shots with each team taking aim 4 times on the night on goal.

Oregon Tech will next head into Cascade Conference play Tuesday, September 13, 2011, hosting Northwest University at 7:00 p.m. at Trevor Derrah Field.
