CALDWELL, Idaho - Emilio Yomaha blasted home a cross from Brad Byers with less than two minutes left in the second overtime period, lifting The College of Idaho to a 2-1 victory over Evergreen State in the Cascade Conference opener for both teams at Simplot Stadium.

With less than two minutes remaining, Byers played a ball from the right flank right on top of the six-yard box, with the freshman Yomaha knocking home the sitter to lift the Coyotes (2-3, 1-0 CCC) to the win.

The Geoducks (1-3, 0-1) had a goal nullified in the ninth minute by an offsides call, but got on the board first in the 22nd minute, as Josh Strasser played a ball to the left side of the box, with Brandon Wood ramming home the score. The C of I would counter less than four minutes later as Byers played a free kick into the box – with Parker Waddell coming out of the scrum with the ball left of the goal, slotting home a goal to the right corner of the net.

After an even first 45 minutes, the Yotes dominated play after halftime, holding an 18-6 edge in shots, and 13 corner kick opportunities, but could not crack the Evergreen net. Ben Tjaden had a pair of headers miss just wide in the second half, while James Collet had a low liner snuffed out by Christian Pettit late in the second overtime.

Evergreen’s best chance after halftime was in the 67th minute, as Kevin Flavin tried a free kick from just outside the 18 in the middle of the field, but the Yotes Aaron Reynolds made a nifty save to keep the score knotted up.

The Yotes doubled up the Geoducks in shots, 24-12, while holding a commanding 16-3 edge in corners.

The C of I returns to action on Saturday, hosting Corban at 1 p.m.
