Warner Pacific Defeats NCU to Open CCC Schedule

PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific scored early and often in a 5-0 men’s soccer victory over Northwest Christian tonight at David Douglas High School.
Almir Celebic pounced on a back pass by the Beacon defense and scored just two minutes into the game, putting the Knights ahead early. Warner Pacific continued to apply pressure to the NCU defense for the rest of the first half, and were rewarded with two more goals. Jordan Selland converted a penalty kick in the 35th minute, and Jameson Jones got on the board after a nice through pass from Clelebic.
After the halftime break, NCU began to connect their passes and generated a few half-chances, but two quick goals from the hosts put the game out of reach. Jones added his second goal of the game for WPC in the 58th minute by finishing from close range after a delivery from Alija Sacirovic. Tarik Subasic rounded out the scoring for the Knights just over two minutes later with an 8 yard smash after a corner kick.
NCU enjoyed more possession late in the game leading to a Sam Eymann driving shot, but his 18 yard effort was pushed high. Sacirovic nearly tallied a 6th goal for WPC with 10 minutes to play, but his left footed try dragged wide.
Warner Pacific won 13 corner kicks compared to 3 for NCU, and outshot the visitors 16-5 overall.
Drew Bonifacio made one save to preserve his third straight shutout for Warner Pacific.
Warner Pacific improves to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in CCC play. Northwest Christian falls to 2-3 and 0-1.
