Kylee Nawahine had 11 kills in Lady Yote win
Lady Yotes Stop Oregon Tech in Three Sets
CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho ran their Cascade Conference volleyball home win streak to 56 matches in a row, stopping feisty Oregon Tech 29-27, 25-17, 25-17 inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The victory for the No. 8 ranked Lady Yotes (8-1, 5-0 CCC) keeps the squad tied atop the CCC standings with Eastern Oregon - who defeated Southern Oregon tonight in three sets.
Set 1 was a marathon, as the Owls (6-4, 1-3) rallied from a 20-16 deficit with four-straight points - tying the score on back-to-back Mindy Nalder aces. Tech would have a pair of set points at 24-23 and 25-24, but a Kylee Nawahine kill and a Coyote combo-block got the hosts much needed side outs. Tied at 27-27, the Yotes got kills from Torrey Hulsey and Ciciley Fox to grab the win.
Set 2 saw OIT grab an early 6-3 lead, only to watch the Coyotes rattle off seven of the next eight points to take the lead for good, extending the margin to 18-11 on a Hulsey spike, running away for the 2-0 set lead. The final set saw Nawahine log three kills in an early 15-8 run to take command to put away the Owls.
Nawahine led the Yotes with 11 kills and four blocks, with Danielle Montalbo notching 10 kills without a hitting error. Fox had nine kills, with Hulsey adding seven kills and seven blocks in the victory. Whitney Brigham led all players with 18 digs, with setter Kelsey Soos adding 33 assists.
The Owls were led by Nalder, who had 10 kills, with Sarah Svedin recording 26 assists in the loss. OIT recorded seven service aces in the match, but hit at a .056 clip.
The C of I returns to action tomorrow night, hosting No. 14 ranked Southern Oregon at 7 p.m.
