KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University Eagles scored three second half goals to defeat #20 Carroll College (Mont.) this afternoon on the NU Athletic Field in a non-conference game.

The first half proved to be a defensive struggle as neither team could score in a combined 12 shot attempts. Northwest goalkeeper, Jordan Holmes kept the Fighting Saints out of the goal net with 5 saves while her counterpart, Erin Volz of Carroll saved 3 for the Saints.

Stephanie Cummins got the game winner as she powered her header into the goal net off a corner kick from teammate Shea Samuelsen. Samuelsen placed her kick high from the right and to the left corner of the goal where Cummins went airborne to head it into the net.

Six minutes later (64:54), it was Samuelsen knocking her free kick in the right side of the net from 20 yards out putting the ball barely over the heads of two Carroll defenders. Kirstie Walton got the game clincher at 77:19 shortly after entering the game as teammate Acacia Johnson fed her a long pass from the left side to Walton who kicked it in from 15 yards out.

Jordan Holmes earned the shutout for Northwest U. (3-2-2) finishing with 8 saves. Carroll (3-2) goalie Erin Volz grabbed 5 saves. Northwest U. outshot Carroll 15-11.

"We found our rhythm and accomplished what we set out to do," said Eagle head coach, Erin Redwine. "We knew our defense had to be sharp but we still wanted to create goals. Stephanie's (Cummins) power header goal was huge and she was so hungry for that. The goal was big and it rallied us to keep working. We are very proud and excited for what's ahead."

NU will host Trinity Lutheran College (Everett) next Friday in another pre-season contest. Game time is 4 p.m.
