Warner Pacific Earns Fifth Consecutive Shutout, Blanks Coyotes 3-0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific broke open a close game with two late goals to earn their fifth straight clean sheet and a 3-0 victory over College of Idaho today at David Douglas High School.
The host Knights (4-1-1, 2-0-1 CCC) tallied an early goal thanks to a wicked strike from Jameson Jones in the 6th minute. The sophomore took a pass from Ryan O’Dell and laced a 20 yard burner to the far post. C of I (2-5-0, 1-2-0 CCC) keeper Aaron Reynolds managed to get a glove on the ball but could not keep it out.
Warner Pacific pressed forward for much of the first period and nearly put several more in the net, but Reynolds made diving saves on shots from both O’Dell and Jordan Selland.
Reynolds again came up big in the first minute of the second half, stopping a point blank try from WP’s Jon Lucero to keep the visiting Coyotes in the game.
C of I began to organize better runs forward as the second period wore on, and earned three promising corner kick opportunities. Header tries from James Collet and Sam Bauer both went begging left of the goal, however.
In the 81st minute, the Knight frontline connected on a beautiful give and go that saw Jones bursting free at the top of the penalty area. The ‘Yote defense was forced into a harsh tackle which resulted in a free kick for WP from 18 yards. Tarik Subasic delivered a bending ball around the defensive wall that found the top corner and gave the Knights a 2-0 lead.
Four minutes from time with the Coyote team pressed forward in search of a goal, WP’s Alija Sacirovic notched his second goal of the season with a 15 yard chip after a counter attack.
Warner Pacific led in the shot category 11-7, while C of I had three corner kicks compared to WP’s two.
Drew Bonifacio made two saves to earn the shutout for the Knights, while Reynolds finished with five saves.
College of Idaho will face CCC leading Concordia tomorrow at Delta Park, while Warner Pacific will host Oregon Tech.
