Eagles Score Second Straight Shutout
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University Eagles scored their second straight shutout with a 3-0 victory over Trinity Lutheran (Everett, Wash.) this afternoon on an 86 degree and sunny day on the NU Athletic Field.
Senior goalkeeper, Jordan Holmes (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.), earned the shutout in goal for Northwest U. (4-2-2) holding TLC scoreless for 75 minutes before leaving the game for substitute, Patty Hughes (Kalispell, Mont.). NU was able to use their depth on the warm day as 21 Eagles saw playing time.
Lindsey Field scored the game winner for Northwest U. in the 29th minute of the first half as she took a pass from the left side and put the ball past the out stretched arms of Trinity Lutheran’s goalkeeper, Kaylin Wilson (Bothell, Wash.) from the right. Teammates Kirstie Walton (Snohomish, Wash.) and Acacia Johnson were credited for the assists. Jessica Oliver scored the second goal, unassisted, for NU with just 42 seconds left in the first half.
Northwest freshman Acacia Johnson (Puyallup, Wash.) scored the game clincher at the 57:28 mark of the second half as she stole a TLC pass intended for the goalkeeper, and put her line drive into the upper left corner of the goal net from 16 yards out on the right side.
NU outshot Trinity Lutheran (2-7-1) 24-6 including 7 shots on goal. TLC goalie, Wilson finished with 4 saves while Holmes and Hughes combined for 3 NU saves.
“It took us a bit to settle into our game, but once we did, it was consistent throughout,” said Erin Redwine, Northwest head coach. “I was happy with the way we combined and the pace of our play. I’m proud of those players who went in off the bench and made an impact, especially Annie-Brynn (Stauffer).”
Northwest will now prepare for their first Cascade Conference game on October 1, when they face Corban University in Salem, Ore.
