Tech's A. J. Castle Had 2 Goals is 2-2 Tie
(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) The Oregon Tech Lady Owls (2-2-1) and the University of Great Falls Argonauts (1-6-1) played to a 2-2 tie Sunday afternoon at Trevor Derrah Field.
Great Falls was first on the scoreboard when Ashly Pezel launched a shot from just outside the 18 along the right side line and the ball deflected off an Oregon Tech defender’s head into the back off the goal to give the Argos a 1-0 lead on the own goal.
Tech quickly answered in the 36th minute when Alysa Castle scored from 18 feet out off a nice flick pass from Becky Olson to tie the game at 1-1.
The two teams battled back and forth with neither getting an advantage as they headed to the half tied at 1.
Oregon Tech took the lead back when Castle took a Meghan Drost pass and scored from 20 out.
Castle almost had a “Hat trick” in the 66th minute but her header was saved by the Argos Goal Keeper Jocelyn Morris to keep the game at 2-1.
Great Falls then tied the game in the 81st minute when Ashly Pezel took a deflection and scored from 12 feet out to force overtime.
In the first overtime Tech was the aggressor but couldn’t find the net taking 3 shots to just 1 shot for Great Falls.
The second overtime was stalemate with neither team getting any good looks on the others goal as the game came to an end after 110 minutes of play at 2-2.
Tech held a slight 16-15 advantage in shots with UGF holding an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal.
Oregon Tech goalie Rebekah Matteri made several nice plays as she was credited with 9 saves for the game with the Argos Keeper Morris having 5 saves.
The game featured 10 corner kicks, 5 for each team.Great falls was whistled for 15 fouls in the game with OIT receiving 13.
Oregon Tech will return to action next Saturday, October 1st as they kick off Cascade Conference play against perennial power house No. 5 Concordia University at 7:00 pm at Trevor Derrah Field.
