Big 2nd Half Leads Corban Past Owls 5-2

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) Corban University scored 4 second half goals to knock off Oregon Tech in Cascade Conference action 5-2 at Trevor Derrah Field Wednesday night. The Warriors improve to 3-2 in CCC play and 5-4 overall with the win. Oregon Tech falls to 1-4 in CCC play and 3-6 overall with the loss.

Oregon Tech started the game off hot attacking the Warrior goal but missed several early scoring opportunities before finally breaking through in the 16th minute as Oscar Alonso-Ayala hit a header into the lower left of the goal off a corner kick served up by Victor Corona.

Corban answered when Josh Hamilton took a Steffan Bard cross and headed it in past the OIT keeper in the 36th minute.

The first half ended in a 1-1 tie with Oregon Tech holding a slim 9-8 advantage in shots with each team getting 3 shots on frame.

Corban controlled the ball and play in the second half outscoring Oregon Tech 4-1. The Warriors had a big 12-9 advantage in shots and a 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Tyler Hagen began the Corban barrage in the 54th minute taking a deflected ball from about 10 feet out and scoring past the Oregon Tech Keeper Loren Jessen.

Derik Chaney then made it a 3-1 game as he took a long pass from Nolan Dempster and beat the Tech keeper from 15 feet out in the 67th minute.

Josh Hamilton scored his second goal of the night and Corban’s second goal in less than a minute as he scored from point blank range to make it a 4-1 game. Tyler Hagan and Aaron Kinnes picked up assists on the play.

Rey Chavolla took a Corona pass and chipped in a great shot on the run in the 82nd minute to get the home crowd back in the game at 4-2.

Aaron Kinnes added one last goal for the Warriors taking a loose ball and scoring from 12 feet out with just 14 seconds left in the game.

Oregon Tech will play host the Evergreen State College Saturday afternoon October 1st at 4:00 pm at Trevor Derrah Field.

Corban University will next travel to Portland, Ore. to face Warner Pacific on Saturday, October 1st at 1:00 pm.
