Wildcats Win Shoot-out over Lady Owls 7-4

(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) Linfield College scored four first half goals then added three more in the second half to defeat Oregon Tech 7-4 in an old fashioned shoot-out at Trevor Derrah Field. Emily Fellows scored four times for the Wildcats as Linfield improves to 1-0 on the season. Hayley Smith had two goals for Oregon Tech as the Lady Owls drop to 0-2.

The game had 39 total shots fired by both teams with 28 of those being on goal.

Mackenzie Doty put the Wildcats up 1-0 early as she dribble past two Lady Owl defenders and then juked the Oregon Tech goalie to score just 3 minutes into the game.

Oregon Tech’s Brandi King tied the game at 1 just 3 minutes later as she shot from twenty-five yards out that amazingly went untouched past two defenders and the Linfield goalie for the score.

Emily Fellows then scored her first goal of the day on a penalty kick in the 21st minute after a foul in the box on Oregon Tech.

Mackenzie Doty scored her second goal of the game, taking a perfect pass from Ellie Schmidt in the 28th minute to make it a 3-1 advantage for the Wildcats.

Oregon Tech then got back in the game as Hayley Smith scored from 30 yards out in the upper right of the goal. Melanie Johnson was credited with an assist on the play to make it a 3-2 game with 7 minutes left in the half.

Linfield struck again right before the half as Christine Tamamoto took a rebound and scored from 8 yards out to make it a 4-2 at the half.

Emily Fellows scored her second goal of the game just 9 minutes into the second half as she shot from 30 yards out to put the Wildcats up 5-2.

Oregon Tech would not quit as they scored twice over the next 10 minutes. The first was by Meghan Drost as she put back a shot that had deflected off Linfield’s goalie in the 59th minute. Hayley Smith then scored her second goal of the game in the 68th minute as she hit a powerful shot from fifty plus feet out that just cleared the out-reached hand of the Linfield goalie to make it a 5-4 game.

Emily Fellows quickly quieted the large home crowd as she scored her third and fourth goals of the day to lock in the win for the Wildcats. Her third goal came in the 82nd minute as she scored unassisted to put Linfield up 6-4. She then put the game away just 4 minutes later, scoring off a cross from Anna LaBeaume as she took the pass and tapped in for her fourth goal of the game.

Taylor Collinsworth went the distance between the pipes to pick up the win for Linfield as she was credited with 6 saves on the afternoon.

Oregon Tech Goalie Rebekah Matteri was credited with 11 saves on the day but picked up the loss as she faced a total of 26 shots from the Wildcats.

Oregon Tech will next face Northwest Christian University next Saturday, September 10 at Steen Sports Park at 3:00 pm.

Linfield will also next play Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Ore. on September 5th at 6:00 pm.
