RENO, Nev. – Eastern Oregon University track and field student-athlete, Robbie Haynie, won the college division at the Reno Pole Vault Summit Saturday.

The junior cleared 17 feet in his first meet of the 2012 season. Haynie hit 17 feet, 2.25 during the competition to hold off Idaho State University’s Mike Arnold. Haynie had the 10th-best mark of all competitors at the national pole vault showcase. His mark is an NAIA auto-qualifying mark, and the top vault in NAIA.

Haynie finished ahead of several NCAA Div. 1 participants Saturday. His mark was just shy of his school-record, which he set last year, at 17 feet, 2.75 inches. The Nampa, Idaho native, continues to be the only Mountaineer to ever clear 17 feet in indoor competition.

Sarah Beck also competed for the Mountaineers. The sophomore finished eighth in the “College 3” division. Beck had a top height of 8 feet, 4.25 inches.

Eastern competes at the Boise State University Bronco Classic for its next meet. It will be the first meet involving many of the Mountaineers this season. The meet will be in Nampa, Idaho on Feb. 4.
