STATS - Concordia vs. Evergreen State

PORTLAND, Ore.—After having a double-digit lead trimmed to three in the final five minutes of action, Concordia withstood the late charge of Evergreen State to defeat the Geoducks 60-49 in Cascade Collegiate Conference action on Friday night.
With the result, Concordia improved to 6-11 overall and 2-4 in CCC play while Evergreen fell to 4-11 on the season and 2-4 in league action.
After Concordia opened up a 10-4 lead through three minutes with back-to-back 3-pointers by Rachel Scarpelli and Kayla Bustus, the Geoducks pulled even with the help of six quick points from Danielle Swain, who would go onto post a match-high 22 points.
With the score tied at 12 apiece, Concordia generated a 13-2 run over the next 10 minutes for an 11-point lead with three minutes remaining in the half. Evergreen finished the half strong however as Jessica Edge scored a pair of layups to help the visiting side to a six-point streak down the stretch to cut the lead to 27-22 at the break.
Lexi Amundsen opened scoring in the second half to put CU up seven, but just as before, the Geoducks clawed back in the game, eventually pulling to within two with the score 41-39 on a 3-pointer from Swain at the 7:11 mark.
The teams traded points over the next three minutes before Scarpelli and Bustos once again connected from long range to extend the gap to eight at 50-42. Moments later, a pair of free throws from Edge reduced the lead to five, but it would be the closest the challenge would get as seven late points from Malori Dixon fueled a 10-4 run by the Cavs to seal the win.
Scarpelli led CU with 17 points while Dixon and Gabi Beyer both recorded 11-point outings. Scarpelli went 9-of-12 from the free throw line to help CU to a 17-to-6 advantage in made free throws. All 12 Cavaliers that saw action grabbed at least one rebound with Amundsen snaring nine for the team high. Six different Geoducks were credited with at least six rebounds, including nine from Edge, as both teams finished with 44 caroms.
With both teams struggling from the field, Evergreen outshot the Cavs 35 percent to 29.5 percent for the game.
Concordia returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Northwest University. Meanwhile, Evergreen will stay in Portland to face Warner Pacific. Both matches are set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
