LA GRANDE, Ore. – The No. 9 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team stayed atop the Cascade Collegiate Conference standings with a 71-60 win over Northwest Christian University Friday.
The Mountaineers (13-3, 6-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference) were led by an 18-point performance from Kyle Miller. The senior was 6-of-13 from the field, including 2-for-2 from behind the arc. It was the 52nd time in her career she has reached double-digits in scoring.
Brooke Randall added 17 points for Eastern. The junior was 7-for-14 from the field. Nicole Redd scored 10 points. Tina Miller threw a season-high six assists, and Korrie Bourn matched a season-high 13 rebounds.
Eastern Oregon finished 45 percent from the field. The Mountaineers were 5-of-19 from three-point range and 8-for-13 from the free-throw line. EOU outrebounded the Beacons, 45-27. Eastern forced 17 turnovers, but committed 16.
Northwest Christian opened the game leading the first seven minutes of the contest. The Beacons’ largest lead in the first half was 6-2. The Mountaineers took their first lead with 12:36 left in the first half after a pair of Kyle Miller free throws. A Kyle Miller jumper at the 4:44 mark of the half gave EOU its largest lead of the period, 32-23. Eastern had a 36-28 lead at halftime.
The Beacons opened the second half on a 13-4 run to take the lead three minutes into the period. The lead changed six times over the next three minutes. The game was tied at 50 at the 12:53 mark of the second half after a jumper from Martha Taylor. The Mountaineers went on an 11-0 run to begin pulling away. EOU led by as many as 15 points in the second half, 71-56, with 2:44 left in regulation.
Jess Anderson led NCU (8-10, 0-6) with 17 points. The senior was 7-of-16 from the field, including 3-for-6 from behind the perimeter. Lindsey Shearer added 15 points and a team-high seven rebounds and five assists.
Northwest Christian shot 40 percent from the field, 8-of-19 from three-point range, and 8-for-12 from the free-throw line. The Beacons shot 47 percent from the field in the first half.
The Mountaineers welcome No. 22 Corban University (10-5, 4-2) Saturday to La Grande. NCU travels to Caldwell, Idaho, to face The College of Idaho (10-6, 5-2) Saturday. Both games tip-off at 5:30 p.m., and will feature live free video streams and live stats on CascadeConference.org.
