LA GRANDE, Ore. -- Northwest's Jessalyn Jackson and Warner Pacific's Sean Gaines have been recognized as Red Lion Players of the Week in basketball for the period ending Jan. 8, the conference office announced.

The honorees:

WOMEN

Northwest University’s Jessalyn Jackson, a 6-0 senior center from Vancouver, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 8.

In a weekend road split, Jackson averaged 25.5 points, 14.5 rebounds and 8.5 blocks. The senior made 61 percent of her shots from the field, making 21 of her 34 attempts from the field, and 9-of-14 from the free-throw line.

Jackson set a new conference record for blocks in a game in a triple-double performance with 13 against Concordia. She leads NAIA Div. 2 in three categories; blocks per game, total rebounds per game and total blocks. Jackson leads the CCC in scoring average, rebounds and blocks.

MEN

Warner Pacific College’s Sean Gaines, a 6-6 junior forward from Portland, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending Jan. 8.

Gaines helped the Knights pick up a weekend sweep at home with wins over No. 10 Northwest University and The Evergreen State College. Gaines averaged 16.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and shot 61 percent from the field. He also made 6-for-7 from the free-throw line.

In a key Top-20 matchup against Northwest, Gaines totaled a season-high 22 points, making nine of his 13 attempts from the field. The junior added 12 rebounds and a pair of blocks against the Eagles.
