NU's Jensen Invited to Colorado Rapids Tryout
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – Northwest University’s senior, Drew Jensen of Tacoma, Wash., has been invited to the Colorado Rapids’ Tryout Combine which will take place January 17 through 19, 2012 at the Foothills Sports Arena in Lakewood, Colorado.
Players will be evaluated by the Colorado Rapids technical staff during the three day, invitation only event. Last year, 57 participants were invited and two players were selected to attend the Rapids’ preseason camp. The Rapids began play in 1995 as one of Major League Soccer’s original 10 teams.
"I am excited and honored to represent NU in this next step in my soccer future,” commented Jensen. “NU has prepared me and supported me in this future goal playing at a higher level. I look at this as a new beginning and I am eager to get to Denver to compete against top quality players from all over the United States."
Jensen was a four year starter for the NU Eagle men’s soccer team as a defender/midfielder and helped lead the 2011 Eagles to a 10-3-1 conference record, 11-5-3 overall record and a spot in the Cascade Conference post season semifinal game. He was selected as a second team All-Cascade Conference team member. Drew’s junior season was shortened after suffering a broken leg nine games into the year, but through his hard work and rehabilitation, he was ready to play in 2011.
Men’s soccer coach and Director of Athletics, Gary McIntosh said, “I'm really proud of Drew! What a great opportunity and honor for Drew to be selected by the Colorado Rapids to attend their invitation only tryout. Drew has been at NU all four years and has been a disciplined and motivated player his entire time here. His hard work and dedication to NU soccer has paid off with this opportunity. Drew's leadership this past season is a big reason why we were so successful as a team. I'm glad he has this chance to show the pro scouts what he is capable of doing on the field.”
