Eagles Shut Out Knights in Shootout
KIRKLAND, Wash. – After a combined 44 shots, Northwest University scored the lone goal to shut out Warner Pacific 1-0, today in CCC play. The important win gives Northwest U. a hold on third place in the CCC and moved them five points ahead of Warner Pacific.
Warner Pacific totaled 26 shots and Northwest took 18 in the shootout which saw NU goalkeeper Joe Galbraith make 12 saves for the day and Drew Bonifacio of WPC making 6 saves.
Do-Hee Kim scored the game winner as he took deflection off a great save by Bonifacio of Alex Taylor’s penalty kick at the 78:44 mark. After the ball came off Bonifacio’s hands, Kim put his right foot on the ball from 8 yards out on the right side for the score.
Galbraith made a key save of Almir Celebic’s blast from 20 yards out on the right side in the 85
th minute to preserve the win and the shutout. Both teams missed scoring opportunities with solid plays by the defense, Bonifacio and Galbraith.
Said NU Coach Gary McIntosh, “We talked before the game about the importance of winning at home and getting the win was the goal today. The defense played well and Joe came up with some huge saves. Offensively, we moved the ball well and created several quality chances to score. Overall, I’m pleased with the effort of the team today.”
