College of Idaho's Felicity Jones Picked as Women's Basketball Preseason Player of the Year
LA GRANDE, Ore. – The College of Idaho’s Felicity Jones, has been voted the CCC’s Preseason Player of the Year, according to a poll of the conference’s 10 head coaches.
An honorable mention NAIA All-American last season, Jones headlines a 15-person team that features 12 returnees and three newcomers. She returns to lead a College of Idaho team that defeated regular season champion Corban in the CCC tournament title game in 2011-12.
“Felicity became our go to player at the end of the season last year,” stated Head Coach Reagan Rossi. “She is a tremendous team player and at times too unselfish. We are hoping she will continue to be an all-around player who will provide leadership as well as consistency throughout the season.”
Joining Jones on the preseason all-star squad is her C of I teammate –senior guard Katelin Shannon (7.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg).
Defending Champion Corban earned three representatives on the preseason All-CCC squad. The Warriors are represented by senior guard Emily Tsugawa (11.3 ppg, 3.7 rpg), senior forward Tess Bennett (12.4 ppg, 6.0 rpg) and Tara Vanweerdhuizen (10.7 ppg, 10.7 rpg).
Eastern Oregon, Northwest Christian and Southern Oregon each had two selections. The Mountaineers are led by senior forward Korrie Bourn (9.4 ppg, 7.5 rpg) and senior guard Brooke Randall (11.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg); the Beacons are represented by senior forward Lindsey Shearer (14.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg) and newcomer Tami Brown; SOU has two newcomers named to the team in junior guards Allison Gida a transfer from the University of Utah and Melissa Sweat from San Diego State University.
Others voted to the team include Chelsey Christiensen of Warner Pacific, Danielle Swain of Evergreen, Karissa Dixon of Oregon Tech, and Domi Mendenzona of Northwest.
