EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s soccer team claimed a 1-0 victory over Northwest on Saturday night, behind a first-half goal from Nathan Ruter (pictured) and a three-save shutout by Erik Carrazco. The NCU win ends a four-game winless streak and gives the Beacons their first win over the Eagles since 2010.
The Beacons out-shot NU 17-11 in the game and held a 9-3 edge in shots on goal. The lone score of the contest came in the sixth minute when Ruter scored on a long throw-in from Lucas Cash that sailed past the entire defensive line. The final 84 minutes were a defensive struggle on both sides of the ball as the teams combined for 34 fouls. NCU held a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Carrazco registers his second shutout of the season, dropping his goals against average to 1.59. Northwest keeper Joe Galbraith played stellar between the pipes after allowing the early score, collecting eight saves.
