Concordia in Sweep Over Northwest U.
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Concordia hit .317 as a team as they swept Northwest U., 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-17) tonight to improve to 14-8 on the season.
Northwest would lead in the early going of the first set, 8-7, but Concordia would tie it at 8-8 and then take the lead for the remainder of the set. Brianna Hogan would tie the set with her kill and Melanie Miller would give the Cavs the lead. CU would outscore the Eagles 9-4, to lead 17-12 capped off by a Mariah Raudsepp kill. Hogan would end the set with her kill to put CU up, 1-0.
Concordia would break out to a 7-3 lead and lead the entire set. Molly Boyle’s service ace would pull Northwest to within two points, 14-12, but CU would score four straight points including two straight kills by Jackie Stein. Olivia VanDlac would make it 24-18, but an NU service error would make it, 2-0 Concordia.
In the final set the score would be tied seven times. In the final tie of the set, 11-11, Lindsay Mangan would give the Cavs the lead for good with her kill. Four straight CU points would put them ahead 15-11 as they would stretch the lead to 22-15 as Melanie Miller and Ashley Jibby would make it a short night with their kills to end the set and the match, 25-17.
Northwest U. (12-11, 6-8 CCC) was led by Olivia VanDlac and Rae Ann Hastings who both finished with 7 kills. Ashton Arbuthnot had a team high 29 assists and senior Heather Shulke had a match high 30 digs for the Eagles. Jackie Stein led Concordia (14-8, 11-4 CCC) with 14 kills while teammate Brianna Hogan finished with 12 kills and hit .375 for the match. Lindsay Mangan had a match high 32 assists and Kelsey Kai had a team high 29 digs.
“Our players gave a terrific effort against a very good Concordia team,” said Coach Steven Bain, “and while we weren’t as successful on the court as any of us would have liked, I was pleased with how well we responded after last night’s disappointing loss. Now we will learn from the experience, put these games behind us and prepare for what are sure to be two tough road matches next weekend.”
The Eagles will travel to Klamath Falls and Ashland, Ore. next weekend as they play Oregon Tech on Fri., Oct. 26 and Southern Oregon in Ashland on Saturday, Oct. 27.
