Cavs First Half Goals Defeat Northwest U.
KIRKLAND, Wash. – Two first half goals by Concordia’s Septi Danciu lifted the 16th ranked Cavaliers to a 2-0 victory over Northwest University this afternoon. Seven Eagle seniors were honored in a post game ceremony by the team: James Kerr, Mason Abdalla, Carlos Portillo, Scott Lane, Corey Wyatt, Jonny Wong and Nickey Ricks.
Danciu scored in the 13th minute as he dribbled past the NU goalkeeper and scored from 9 yards out from the left side. His second goal came at the 30:05 mark as he took a pass from Sam Carmichael and put the ball into the right corner from 15 yards out. Neither team would find the mark in the second half. NU would play shorthanded the final 7:12 after a red card was issued, but the Eagle defense held Concordia scoreless.
Joe Galbraith totaled 9 saves in goal for Northwest U. (8-7-1, 6-6 CCC), all coming in the first half, while CU goalie, Scott Gross had 5 saves in goal for the Cavaliers. CU outshot NU 27-10 and held the edge on corner kicks, 7-4.
“It was a tough day for us as we gave away two first half goals,” stated NU head coach, Gary McIntosh. “I felt like in the second half we did a much better job of defending and moving the ball around. It was a special day being the last home game for the seniors. This senior class is going out as one of the hardest working in the history of NU. However, their greatest contribution to Northwest is the standard they set and lived by with regard to their character and commitment on the soccer field, in the classroom and within the community. They have taken full advantage of this opportunity, yet their best work still lies ahead after graduation. It is only fitting that this special group of men be honored for representing Northwest University. With that in mind, we extend a very heartfelt ‘thank you’ for all of their hard work and we wish them well as they move forward.”
NU will now head to Caldwell, Idaho on Oct. 27 for a game against the College of Idaho. They will conclude their regular season on Nov. 3, with a game in Olympia with Evergreen.
