La Grande, Ore. – Eastern Oregon women's soccer team tied Southern Oregon 1-1, Sunday afternoon.

Kelli Jones scored the only goal for the Mountaineers (1-13-2, 1-6-2 CCC). While Julie Zamzow scored the sole goal for the Raiders (9-5-2, 5-2-2 CCC).   Goalkeeper Kailey Moss for EOU  had three saves on the day while Katelyn Allen had 2 for Southern.

Mauriana Gonzalez connected with Jones in the 23rd minute to put the Mountaineers on the scoreboard first.

The Mountaineers’ tough defense in the first half denied Southern any great looks on goal. EOU took a 1-0 lead into the half.

In the second period both teams played evenly throughout. The Mountaineers seemed to have the game won until a breakdown on defense allowed Southern to score late in the match. Jacquie Galvez found an open Julie Zamzow and she put the ball past goalkeeper Moss with just over 3 minutes to play in the game. Tied after 90:00 minutes of play, the game would go into overtime.

Neither team would convert in overtime as the game would end in a 1-1 tie.

Southern outshot Eastern 26-6 and took 8 corners compared to 3 by EOU. With the tie Southern advances to post-season play.
