CCC Women's Soccer All-Conference Selections Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. – Stephanie Cummins of Northwest University and Concordia’s Jenna Peterson each received five coaches votes to split this year’s Cascade Collegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Year honor, while Southern Oregon’s Stephanie Carr has been selected the women’s soccer Offensive Player of the Year, the conference office announced.
Cummins, a senior from Renton, Wash., helped lead her Northwest University (9-9-2) teammates to a CCC regular-season championship with seven wins and 22 points; one point ahead of perennial CCC favorite Concordia. Cummins finished the season pacing an Eagle defense that allowed just seven goals in conference play. Cummins also contributed offensively to the NU offense with four goals, of which two were game-winners.
Concordia’s Jenna Peterson, a 5-foot-7 senior from Federal Way, Wash., led her Cavalier team (15-2-2) to a second-place finish in the CCC regular-season table with seven wins (21 points). Peterson anchored a defense that has allowed just eight goals and a minuscule 0.40 goals against average in 19 contests this season.
Southern Oregon University’s Stephanie Carr was selected by the conference coaches as the CCC Offensive Player of the Year. The 5-foot-9 senior forward from Upland, Calif.., tied for first in goals scored (13) and shots taken (70), while ending up second in shots per game (3.89), goals per game (0.72), and game-winning goals scored (6).
For the third consecutive season a freshman is awarded the Newcomer of the Year award as Concordia University forward Alicia Alarcon-Evans was so honored by the ten conference coaches. The 5-foot-3 Cavalier forward tallied 19 points (7 goals, 5 assists) on the season and ranked third in the conference in game-winning goals with four.
Erin Redwine of Northwest University was selected by her peers as CCC Coach of the Year award after one of the most miraculous finishes to a season in recent history. Redwine’s Eagles, who started the 2012 campaign 1-7-1, ran off a string of seven consecutive wins to capture the CCC regular-season crown. The Eagles then picked up their eighth win in a row defeating Oregon Tech 2-1 in the semifinals of the CCC tournament. Concordia ended NU’s fairy-tale season as they found a golden goal in the first overtime (2-1) of the CCC Championship. This is the second-straight season that Coach Redwine has been coveted with this coaching honor, sharing the award with Southern Oregon’s Jon Clement in 2011.
