PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific opened their 2012-13 home schedule with a 87-65 win over Simpson University tonight at Bart Valentine Court.

The host Knights (3-1) broke open a close game in the latter minutes of the first period, reeling off 11 straight points to push a 32-25 lead out to 43-25 at the break. Marcus Moore capped the run with a long three pointer at the buzzer.

The visiting Redhawks (1-6) scored the first two baskets of the second period and fought back to within 12 points (62-50) with 12:12 to play. Simpson could draw no closer however, as WPC hit 14 of 17 free throws in the period to keep SU at bay.

Doug Thomas came off the bench to drop in a team high 18 points for Warner Pacific. Stephen Harris added 14 points and 11 rebounds. The Knights made 30 of 54 shots as a team, good for 55.6 percent.

Ian Corella made 5 of 7 shots for Simpson on the way to a team high 16 points. Guy Varsek added 15 points, while Dalton Thacker dished out a game high five assists.
