VANCOUVER, Wash. – Southern Oregon earned its third consecutive top-three finish by placing second, and College of Idaho’s Greg Montgomery finished second overall to lead the Cascade Collegiate Conference at the 2012 NAIA Men’s Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Fort Vancouver National Historic Site.
Montgomery finished the 8k track with a time of 24:06 to finish second to individual national champion John Glibertson (23:56) from The Master’s College. Southern Oregon’s Tyler VanDyke led the Raiders with a 19th-place finish (25:06), followed closely by teammate Scott McIntyre in 22nd place (25:10), and C of I’s Dominic Bolin finished 28th (25:14) to give the conference four All-American finishers.
Southern Oregon, ranked No. 1 entering the race, tallied 153 total points to finish second behind team champion St. Francis (138) points. College of Idaho placed 11th with 330 points, followed by Eastern Oregon in 14th (369) and Concordia (Ore.) in 17th (419) as the CCC placed four teams among the top 17 in the nation.
The meet marked the fourth straight season that the national championships were held in Vancouver, Wash. Next year, the NAIA crowns will be handed out in Lawrence, Kan.
