TACOMA, Wash. – Northwest University’s Domi Mendezona scored a season high 23 points, but it wasn’t enough as the University of Puget Sound defeated the Eagles, 74-57, in a non-conference contest tonight.

Cool, 23% shooting for Northwest U. in the first half would lead to a 34-23 deficit. In the second half, Domi Mendezona would hit a 3 pointer to pull NU to within five, 38-33, but it would be the closest the Eagles would get to the Loggers who would then go on a 9-4 run to increase their lead to 47-37 with 12:47 to go in the game.  Two free throws by UPS’ Kelsey McKinnis would give the Loggers their largest lead of the half, 62-47, as they would cruise to their second win of the season against one loss.

In addition to Mendezona’s 23 points, Northwest (0-4) got 10 points from Alyssa Dario and a game high 15 rebounds from Carley Davis. Sanda Milovic scored 9 points for the Eagles who finished the night shooting 32%. NU hit 79% of their free throws going 11 for 14 from the line.

Puget Sound’s (2-1) Kelsey McKinnis led the Loggers with 20 points while teammate Sarah Stewart scored 17 points and gathered in 6 rebounds. Emily Sheldon led the Loggers with 10 rebounds as they held a 47-38 rebounding margin over Northwest.

Northwest U. will travel to Walla Walla on Saturday, Nov. 24 and will play Whitman College in another non-conference game at 4 p.m.
