LACEY, Wash. - The Northwest Christian University women's basketball team dropped their second straight on Tuesday night, falling to Saint Martin’s University, 62-48. It was the first win of the season for the Saints.
NCU held SMU to just 37% shooting but struggled on their own offensive end, hitting just 17 of 50 field goal attempts. The Beacons out-rebounded the Saints 45-39 but turned the ball over 30 times.
NCU (5-3) was led by Lindsey Shearer, scoring 13 points and 9 rebounds as the only Beacon player in double-digits for scoring. Aly Bruns added seven points and Andrea Gloss (pictured) scored six points and seven rebounds. Chandler Gabrio continued to provide solid reserve minutes, scoring six points, five rebounds and three steals in just nine minutes of work.
Saint Martin’s (1-2) was led by Chelsea Haskey, scoring 18 points with seven rebounds. Ciara Pedroni came off the bench to score 13 points as the SMU reserves outscored the NCU bench, 33-13.
Northwest Christian will have a well-deserved one-week break, getting back on the court next Tuesday when they play host to Simpson University (Calif.) at 5:30 pm.
