SOU Women Knock Off L-C State 88-59

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon shot nearly 70 percent in the first half to build a 51-23 halftime lead as the Raider women coasted to an 88-59 victory over Lewis-Clark State Friday afternoon at the Flagship Inn Classic at Bob Riehm Arena.
Southern Oregon improves to 7-0 with the win, while L-C State falls to 0-7. The Raiders return to action Sunday afternoon in the final game of the 2012 Flagship Inn Classic, hosting Puget Sound at 2 p.m.
Allison Gida finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting, while Melissa Seat made eight of nine shot attempts to score 20 points while adding five rebounds and three assists. Ashley Claussen added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Kiara Moore grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds as SOU out-rebounded the Warriors 54-22 in the game. Annie Kane scored 15 points to lead L-C State.
Shelby Barnes made a free throw to put L-C State up 1-0, but Sweat made a layup on the next possession and followed it up with a three-pointer as the Raiders quickly built a double-digit lead at 18-8. Southern Oregon continued to extend its lead throughout the first half, connecting on 21 of 31 shot attempts in the period to lead by as many as 31 points. The Raiders’ largest lead of the game came midway through the second half when a layup by Gida put the hosts up 75-39.
Southern Oregon dominated the paint, outscoring L-C State 44-28 in front of the basket. For the game, the Raiders shot 57.1 percent (36-of-63), including 8-of-17 from the three-point line.
