BOX SCORE - Concordia vs. Lewis & Clark
PORTLAND, Ore.—Playing for the first time in 11 days, the Concordia men’s basketball team lost to Lewis & Clark 77-61 on Saturday.
The Cavs fell to 2-3 with the loss, while the Pioneers improved to 3-0.
The Pios and the Cavs played a tight first half before an 8-0 Lewis & Clark run over the final three minutes of the period turned a four-point game into a 12-point game at 41-29.
Concordia cut the lead to single digits a couple of times in the second half—getting as close as six at 43-37—but the Pios matched Concordia’s runs to push the lead back up to double digits each time.
Concordia gave Lewis & Clark its best shot when it scored 14 straight points over a three-minute stretch in the second half that brought them within eight at 67-59. Five different Cavaliers scored during the run before a layup from Concordia’s Adam Herman finished the run with 5:44 left in the game. Unfortunately for Concordia, the team would score only two more points after Herman’s layup as Lewis & Clark stretched out their lead over the final five minutes of the game.
The Cavs’ 11-day layoff did not help the team’s shooting against Lewis & Clark as the Pios held Concordia to a season-low 35.3 percent shooting from the floor. Lewis & Clark, meanwhile, shot 46.9 percent in the game, a season high for a Cavalier opponent.
Individually, Herman recorded his fifth straight double-double to start the season, tallying 20 points and 11 rebounds against the Pios on Saturday. Herman’s 20 points led all players in the game, while teammate Willy Ligon joined him in double-figures with 16 points.
On the flip side, the Pios’ Ross Erickson posted his own double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds against the Cavs. Erickson led the Pios in both categories, while he also added four assists, two steals and a block for his team.
Concordia will now look to snap a three-game losing streak when it opens conference play on the road next weekend. Concordia will begin the weekend against No. 9 Eastern Oregon on Friday, Nov. 30, before playing The College of Idaho the next day, Dec. 1. Both games will tipoff at 7:30 p.m.
The Cavs do not play another home game until they host Southern Oregon on Friday, Dec. 21.
