Southern Oregon Men's Basketball Named Adidas Team of the Week
LA GRANDE, Ore. –The Southern Oregon University men’s basketball team has been named the Adidas Team of the Week, the Cascade Collegiate Conference announced Sunday.
The Raiders went 2-1 this week with victories over the defending national champions and preseason No. 2 Oregon Tech Hustlin’ Owls 76-60 and New Hope Christian 110-80. The lone set back was against Lewis-Clark State College 87-84, in the final game of the Flagship Inn Classic tournament in which they hosted.
The Raiders are led by preseason player of the year Eric Thompson who is also the current Men’s Basketball Red Lion Player of the Week. The 10 CCC coaches voted Thompson as the favorite to win the player of the year award.
Southern Oregon (6-3, 0-0 CCC) was picked fourth in the CCC preseason coaches’ poll behind defending CCC and National Champion Oregon Tech, Eastern Oregon and Warner Pacific. The respect in the conference extends nationally as the Raiders are ranked No. 23 in the NAIA preseason coaches’ poll. That ranking should go up with the victory over OIT. The first coaches’ poll will be released Tuesday November 27.
