Oregon Tech Runs Past Walla Walla in 2012 Opener
KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. –Oregon Tech held Walla Walla University to just 23.7% shooting on the night, as the Lady Owls ran past the Wolves, 95-44, tonight at Danny Miles Court to open up the 2012 basketball campaign.
Tech junior Kassi Conditt would knock down the Owls’ first points of the season on the first trip down the floor, while Kiana Caban capped a 16-0 run to start the game with a jumper from the wing. The teams traded points over the next six minutes of play, before Tech headed to the half with a comfortable 23 point advantage, 46-23.
Tech opened the second half on a 19-3 run to make it a 65-26 game and methodically pulled away from the Wolves over the next 14 minutes to take tonight’s contest by their largest margin, 95-44.
Oregon Tech Junior guard Karissa Dixon, a rebound shy of a double-double, led all scorers with a game-high 23 points to go with a game-high 9 boards. Tess Armstrong, playing in her first collegiate game, netted 14 points , followed by Kassi Conditt with 11 points and 7 rebounds. Freshman Karly Leveque would round out double figure scorers with 10 points, 3 assists and a pair of steals. Maria Ramirez and Carrie Thibault recorded half of Tech’s 28 total assists with 7 each.
For Walla Walla Dani Carlman led the Wolves with 14 points, followed by Johanna Uribe with 8 and Brianna Moorer with 7 points.
Oregon Tech hit on 51.4% from the floor (34-for70), including a 6-for-15 effort from long range and 21-of-25 from the charity stripe. The Owls recorded 28 assists and outrebounded their opponent 54-32.
The teams will meet up one more time on Sunday beginning at 3 p.m.
