Voting to Help Concordia Alum Become the Next Miss America Now Open
Crowned Miss Hawaii earlier in the year,
Skyler Kamaka, a former Concordia University volleyball player, is asking for your vote to help move on to the Miss America finals which will be held in January.
Videos of all contestants have been posted with the top vote getter earning a spot to the finals of the Miss America contest. The 2013 Miss America contest will be broadcast live from Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas on Saturday, January 12 on ABC. Voting for the automatic finalist can be cast in one of two ways:

Kamaka, an all-conference setter for the Cavaliers, beat out 15 other contestants in the 66th annual scholarship pageant held at the Hawaii Convention Center.Kamaka earned the trip to the state's preeminent pageant after being named Miss Diamond Head in her pageant debut.
“No words can express how grateful and honored I am to be blessed with this opportunity. There have been so many people who supported me along the way and without them none of this would have been possible,” Kamaka said. “I'd like to thank the students, faculty and staff and Concordia for your never-ending love and support throughout my preliminary and Miss Hawaii pageant, I gave a special shout out to all of you when I did my first walk as Miss Hawaii on stage.”
Kamaka's talent for the competition was hula dancing while her pageant platform is Athletes Promoting Inclusion for Individuals with Disabilities.
The Miss America pageant is scheduled for January in Las Vegas. The final evening of competition will be broadcast live on the ABC television network. Miss America 2012 winner Laura Kaeppeler from Wisconsin will crown her successor at the end of the event. All 50 states plus the District of Columbia, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico will compete for the prestigious title.
If Kamaka is crowned Miss America, she will become the third Miss Hawaii to win the national title. Previous winners include Miss Hawaii 1991 Carolyn Suzanne Sapp and Miss Hawaii 2000 Angela Perez Baraquio.
Kamaka was a 2008 graduate of Kamehameha Schools and earned a B.S. in exercise and sport science with a minor in coaching at Concordia. Kamaka finished her career ranked No. 5 on the school's all-time list with 1,913 assists. She finished eighth in total aces with 96 and finished among the top 10 in school history in sets and games played.
