EUGENE, Ore. – Corban University hit 13 three-pointers as Josiah Sebens and Jacob Kopra combined to score 55 points on Saturday afternoon, leading the Warriors to a 73-70 victory over Northwest Christian University in Cascade Collegiate Conference action in the Morse Event Center. NCU hit eight three-pointers of their own in the loss.
A closely contested game saw the combatants play through 13 lead changes and 14 ties before Corban emerged with the victory. NCU shot 44.6% from the field while the Warriors hit 44.3% and both teams shot better than 44% from three-point range as well. The difference maker was at the free-throw line where Corban made good on 6-of-9 attempts while the Beacons connected on just 4-of-10.
The Warriors (5-7, 2-3 CCC) were led Sebens (pictured) with 29 points, shooting 7-for-9 from three-point range. Kopra hit five treys of his own and ended the evening with 26 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Corban grabbed 18 assists on 27 baskets, led by eight from Andrew Evans.
NCU (7-10, 1-4) had four players in double-figures, led by Travis Pacos off the bench with 14 points, six assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals. Greg Shepard added ten points off the bench as the Beacon reserves out-scored Corban’s bench, 33-3. Jordan Buhler scored 12 points and led all players with eight rebounds while adding four assists. Trevor Parker hit three from beyond the arc and ended the night with eleven while Gio Guzman scored nine off the bench, also hitting a trio of triples.
Northwest Christian University will be back in action in two weeks when they play host to No. 2 Eastern Oregon University on January 4 at 7:30 pm. Corban will host The College of Idaho that night.
