Lutes Limit Cavs in Second Half for 64-58 Win
BOX SCORE - Concordia vs. Pacific Lutheran
PARKLAND, Wash.—Playing in back-to-back days on the road, Concordia ran out of gas in the second half as Pacific Lutheran defeated the Cavaliers 64-58 in non-conference women’s basketball action on Saturday night.
Concordia, a day after a furious comeback fell short against NCAA DIII power George Fox, enjoyed a six-point lead at the half behind 17 early points from leading scorer Malori Dixon, but the team managed just five field goals in the second half as the Lutes fulfilled the comeback.
The Cavaliers outshot Pacific Lutheran 48.1 percent to 37.1 percent in the first half and held the lead for the first 10 minutes of the second half before a successful 3-pointer by PLU’s Andi Adams squared the match at 43-43.
The Lutes continued their spree to gain a five-point gap, but Dixon powered the CU response, eventually tying the game at 51-51 with less than six minutes to play.
The home side dominated the final minutes however, compiling an 8-0 run with baskets by Adams and Megan Abdo to finish off the contest and earn the Lutes their first win of the season in seven chances.
Concordia, meanwhile, falls to 5-5 on the year and will next take next take the floor next Saturday when it travels to face cross-town rival Warner Pacific.
Buoyed by an 11-of-14 performance at the free throw line, Dixon finished with a game-high 26 points, the fifth time this season the senior has toppled the 20-point barrier. The total fell two points shy of her collegiate career best. Randi McReynolds, a true freshman, also reached double-figures for the Cavs by tying her career best of 12 points.
Adams led the Lutes with 18 points while Samantha Potter ended the night with 14 and Abdo 12.
