STATS - Concordia vs. Northwest Christian

PORTLAND, Ore.—Battling for a playoff spot in the CCC Tournament, Concordia University defeated Northwest Christian 63-49 on senior day inside the Cavalier Gymnasium on Saturday.

With the result, Concordia improved to 8-19 overall and 4-12 in the CCC while NCU fell to 10-18 on the season and 2-14 in league play. The Cavaliers will enter the final weekend a half-game ahead of Evergreen State for the eighth and final playoff spot. The loss eliminated the Beacons from playoff contention.

Concordia will conclude its regular season on the road against College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon while NCU will host Oregon Tech and Southern Oregon for its final week.

Moments after being recognized on senior day, Rachel Scarpelli put the Cavs on the board with a free throw make after a technical was assessed pregame. Fellow senior Brittney Yates returned with a layup to give the Cavs the 3-0 lead which they would not rescind.

The Beacons would force a pair of ties in the first half, however, with Kelsey Atkins earning points in the paint to make it a 20-20 contest at the 8:03 mark and Jess Anderson converting a three-pointer with 4:46 remaining to square the game at 26-all. NCU would miss their final six field goal attempts of the half, scoring just two free throws in the final minutes, as the Cavs went on to earn a 36-28 lead at the break.

Concordia would go on to extend its advantage to double-digits on a Scarpelli jumper and later to 18 points via a Kayla Bustos bucket with 3:26 left to play.

Scarpelli led the Cavs with 16 points with nine coming by way of the 3-point shot. Three other Cavs reached double figures as Malori Dixon added 13 while Courtney May and Bustos each chipped in with 11. Scarpelli also nabbed a career-high 10 rebounds, six from the offensive end, for her first career ‘double-double’.

Lindsey Sheerer paced the Beacons with 16 points on a 7-of-15 shooting night from the floor. Martha Taylor scored 11 and snared nine rebounds to fall one carom shy of a double-double of her own.  Anderson also produced on both ends for the Beacons with 10 points and seven boards.

With the benefit of hitting 50 percent of their shots in the first half, CU outshot NCU 41 percent to 35.3 percent overall for the game.
