CALDWELL, Idaho - Zachary Fabricius tossed six shutout innings in the opener, while going 3-for-3 with a key RBI double in the nightcap, as The College of Idaho completed a four-game sweep of Whitman College, grabbing 8-0 and 6-2 wins today at Wolfe Field.

Game 1 saw Fabricius work out of a bases loaded jam in the first, as Aaron Cohen lined into a double play to end the inning - the best scoring chance of game for the Missionaries (0-4). The Coyotes grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first, as Todd Griffiths led off with a triple, scoring on a double to left-center by Izaac Garsez. Brett Ward had an RBI single in a two-run fourth to push the lead to 3-0, then ripped a two-run, two-out single in the sixth to extend the lead to 5-0. Jarel Lewis had an RBI triple and Jesse Dodd a two-run double in the seventh to cap the scoring.

Fabricius allowed just five hits, striking out four, to get the win for the Coyotes (6-2) - with Taylor Nicholson adding two scoreless frames and Michael Garza working a 1-2-3- ninth. Lewis went 3-for-4 with a double, triple, and three runs scored in the win, with Griffiths, Dodd, and Ward each recording two hits. Six different Whitman players had one hit, with Missionaries' starter Dakota Matherly allowing just five hits in five innings of work.

The Yotes quickly took a 3-0 lead in the late game, as Tanner Hodges lined a two-run double and Fabricius followed with a run-scoring single. The Whits would get two runs back in the second on an Eli Mathieu RBI single and on a sacrifice fly, then strand the tying run in scoring position in the third. The C of I squandered chances in each of the middie innings, before Fabricius rocketed a two-out, RBI single into right in the sixth to push the lead to 4-2, with Cameron Packham padding the lead with a sun-aided two-run double.

It was enough for Nicholson, who allowed just three hits in four-plus innings of shutout relief to earn the win. Fabricius and Garsez each went 3-for-3 in the win. Cohen went 2-for-3 and pitched five-plus solid innings, but took the loss.

The Coyotes return to action next weekend, hosting Willamette in a four-game weekend series at Wolfe Field.
