LA GRANDE, Ore. -- The first 2012 softball Red Lion Cascade Collegiate Conference Athletes of the Week were released Tuesday for the period ending Feb. 12.

The honorees:

SOFTBALL PITCHER

College of Idaho’s Nickayla Skinner, a sophomore from Mountain Home, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 12.

Skinner helped the Lady Yotes to a 5-1 record at the Simpson Invitational. She was dominant in the circle holding No. 8 Concordia to four hits and striking out 13 batters in seven innings. Skinner then tossed a two-hitter versus Simpson and a four-hit shutout versus William Jessup. Both teams are receiving votes in the NAIA poll.

Honorable mention: Amy Greenough, Corban; Alex Hillmick, Eastern Oregon; Jenna Royce, Northwest Christian.

SOFTBALL PLAYER

Corban’s Stephanie Nippert, a junior centerfielder from Rocklin, Calif., has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 12.

Nippert was in mid-season form in the opening weekend of the season, as the reigning CCC Player of the Year went a combined 15-for-33 at the plate with three doubles and five home runs. Nippert also scored eight runs, registered 14 RBI, and was perfect with four stolen bases in four attempts at the Simpson Invitational.

The third-year Warrior also registered the game-tying and game-winning hits against No. 8-ranked Concordia-Irvine thanks to a 7th inning home run and an 8th inning RBI single.

Honorable mention: Sarah Jackson, Eastern Oregon; Molly Mills, College of Idaho; Gabby Stover, Northwest Christian.
