MOSCOW, Idaho – The Eastern Oregon University women’s and men’s track and field teams capped off their regular indoor season with a stellar performance at the Vandal Collegiate at the University of Idaho on Saturday.

The Mountaineers were led by the national qualifying performances of Robbie Haynie, and John Ellingson in the pole vault, Asa Miller in the high jump, Brian Bragg in the mile, Alma Garcilazo and Kimmy Moore in the 400 meters, and the women’s 4x400-meter relay team of Garcilazo, Moore, Kadie Booth, and Kelsey Kinzar.

Haynie finished second in the men’s pole vault to Jeremy Klas of the University of Idaho in a jump off. Haynie cleared 17 feet, 4.75 inches. It marks the fourth time this season he has cleared the NAIA automatic mark in the event. Ellingson joins Haynie at the national meet with a fifth place finish and national qualifying mark of 15 feet, seven inches.

“It marks the first time in school history that we have qualified two vaulters to nationals in the same year,” EOU head coach Ben Welch said. “Robbie continues to jump well and it was nice to see John finally put it together.”

Miller continued his outstanding high jumping, upping his personal best to 6 feet, 8.75 inches. The jump was one centimeter higher than last week and moved him into a tie for fifth on the national list.

“Asa continues to be a pleasant surprise and impressive in the way he is jumping,” said Welch.

Bragg just missed the school record in the mile, running 4:18.22. That left him .18 shy of Ian Schroeder’s school record of 4:18.04.The time betters his previous season best and moves him up to 29th on the national list.

“I am happy about his performance but wish it could have been just a little faster in order to take down the school record,” Welch said.

The women were paced by Garcilazo and Moore in the 400 meters. Garcilazo just missed the school record with her 57.81 second place finish. The time is an automatic qualifier for the NAIA Indoor Championships in two weeks, and is number two all-time indoors behind Mardee Potts’ school record of 57.74 back in 1990.

Moore reached the provisional mark with her sixth place finish of 59.23, she moves to number three all-time. The duo later joined Kinzer and Booth to run 4:02.26 for third in the 4x400 relay. The time betters their mark of a week ago and was an NAIA provisional qualifier.

“Alma and Kimmy give us the first women’s duo to qualify for nationals in the 400 in the same year. I am really proud of the way both of them ran today,” Welch said.

Booth added to her day by claiming a school record in the 60 meters, 7.97, and a personal best of 26.12 in the 200. Her 200 time moves her to number two on the all-time EOU indoor list.

“Kadie continues to have an impressive season and continues to build herself into a top level sprinter,” Welch said.

Other outstanding performances were turned in by Leigh Anne MacCarthy in the women’s 3000, 10:53.68, Allison Rodgers, triple jump, 32 feet, 8.5 inches, fifth all-time, Garcilazo’s 200 meters time of 26.56, fifth all-time, Issac Updike’s 3000, 8:45.83 time, Travis Simpson, high jump, 6 feet, 2.75 inches, Jake Wilcox, shot put, 46 feet, 0.75 inches, and Carson Hendryx, weight, 52 feet, 6 inches.

The Mountaineers wrap-up their indoor season at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Geneva, Ohio, March 1-3.
