CU's Brown Collects Win; 6 RBI in Win over Great Falls

MEDFORD, Ore.--Posting a complete game while pitching in the circle, Concordia’s Jordyn Brown helped her own cause with a pair of home runs and six total RBI to boost the Cavaliers to an 11-3 win over Great Falls in the SOU Tournament on Saturday.
With the win, Concordia improved to 7-10 on the season while Great Falls fell to 0-6. CU's final game of the tournament against Simpson College was cancelled due to snowfall in the area.
Concordia will next take the field on March 1, when it hosts the University of British Columbia. Opening pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Delta Park on Thursday.
The Cavs scored three runs in both the second and third inning before erupting for four runs in the fourth. Great Falls earned single runs in the third, fourth and fifth to avoid falling in the fifth due to the 8-run rule. The Cavs tacked-on its final run in the top of the sixth while Brown pitched a perfect home half of the frame to end the contest early.
Mary Lugar got the Cavs on the board in the second inning with a 3-run shot to center field.
After hitting a ground-rule double in the second, Brown gave CU its second straight inning with a 3-run shot by sending the ball over the fence to left field with teammates Tobey Varney and Kate Santos on base.
Kyndell Andrews opened up the scoring in the fourth with a double to plate Allison Gunter, who reached earlier on an infield single. Laura Luther singled up the middle and Varney drew a walk to load the bases to set up Brown again who would go on to launch her second ground-rule double of the day to register two more RBI.
Brown would account for the team’s final run with a solo shot with two outs showing on the board in the top of the sixth.
In the circle, Brown allowed just three runs, two of which were earned, off five hits. The senior struck out four while issuing two walks. Meanwhile, UGF's Alyse Sifuentes took the loss after allowing six earned runs over the first three innings.
The Argos scored its first run in the third inning but would up stranding the bases loaded. Samantha Kramer went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI to lead Great Falls at the plate.
