Northwest's Jackson Named Top Player on Red Lion All-Conference Team

LA GRANDE, Ore. – Jessalyn Jackson of Northwest University has been named Cascade College Conference Player of the Year after a vote of the league’s coaches, the conference office announced Sunday.

The six-foot senior center from Vancouver, Wash. led the CCC in scoring (19.4 ppg), rebounding (11.6 rpg) and blocked shots (4.5 bpg). Her 48.2% (165-342) shooting from the floor during the season was sixth best in the conference. Jackson was also named CCC Player of the Week twice during the season.

Kelsey Mattsen of Warner Pacific College was selected as Defensive Player of the Year. Mattson, a 5-9 senior guard from Portland, was rewarded for her prowess as a tenacious defender. Mattsen was assigned night-in and night-out to guard against the opponent’s best player. Mattsen averaged 11.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game.

The College of Idaho’s Felicity Jones earned Newcomer of the Year recognition after a season which saw the 5-8 junior guard from Tremonton, Utah average 13.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. The transfer from the College of Southern Idaho, a first team All-CCC selection, also had 63 steals and 64 assists during the season.

In his 12th season on the bench, Corban University’s Terry Williams was selected the CCC’s Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to their first-ever outright regular season title. Corban took the CCC regular-season with a 15-3 record and earned an automatic berth in the upcoming NAIA Championships in Sioux City, Iowa. The Warriors are currently ranked at their season-high of 10th in the latest NAIA coaches’ poll with the final poll to be released on February 29.

Others named to the 12-person All-CCC team included Corban’s Katie Steigleman, Tess Bennett and Emily Tsugawa; Eastern Oregon’s Korrie Bourn and Kyle Miller; Evergreen’s Danielle Swain; Northwest Christian’s Lindsey Shearer; Oregon Tech’s Karissa Dixon; and Warner Pacific’s Cameryn Calhoun and Chelsey Christensen.

Ten players earned honorable mention All-CCC honors: Aundrea Albright, Oregon Tech; Laura Geis, College of Idaho; Kelsey Mattsen, Warner Pacific; Domi Mendezona, Northwest; Josi McDermott, Southern Oregon; Haley Newell, Southern Oregon; Brooke Randall, Eastern Oregon; Rachel Scarpelli, Concordia; Katelin Shannon, College of Idaho; Tara VanWeerdhuizen, Corban.
