Softball and Baseball Players of the Week Announced
LA GRANDE, Ore. -- College of Idaho and Oregon Tech were represented in this week's Red Lion Cascade Collegiate Conference Athletes of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26, the conference office announced Monday.
The honorees:
BASEBALL PITCHER
College of Idaho’s Michael Garza, a junior from Othella, Wash., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26.
In 12 innings of work in a pair of games, Garza allowed eight hits and two runs. He struck out eight batters and walked six. The junior recorded two wins and finished the week with an ERA of 1.50.
Garza helped the Yotes improve to 12-4 overall, and his wins came in the snow over Willamette and then against Dickinson State.

BASEBALL PLAYER
Oregon Tech’s Ryan Hayden, a sophomore from Grants Pass, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Baseball Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26.
Hayden recorded 12 hits, including four for extra bases, eight RBI to go with five base on balls, as the Owls went 3-3 on the week.
Against Concordia, Hayden went 3-for-4, scoring four times and recording a triple. He was walked in that game as well.

SOFTBALL PITCHER
Oregon Tech’s Morgan Barnes, a sophomore from Grants Pass, Ore., has been named the Red Lion Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26.
Barnes earned a pair of wins in the circle for Oregon Tech as the Owls went 4-0 on the week to improve to 12-2 overall.
Barnes struck out 12 batters in 10 innings of work and allowed just two runs. At the plate, Barnes finished with three hits, including a double and her first career home run while driving in three runs.
Honorable mention: Amy Greenough, Corban; Alexis Macias, College of Idaho; Chelsea Talbert, Southern Oregon.
SOFTBALL PLAYER
College of Idaho’s Molly Mills, a junior from Burley, Idaho, has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week for the period ending Feb. 26.
In four wins over nationally-ranked Dickinson State, Mills was 7-for-10 at the plate, reaching base on 10-of-13 at bats. She scored seven times over the weekend. The junior had a .700 batting average and a .800 slugging percentage.
In the final game against DSU, Mills went 3-of-4, with two RBI. She went 2-for-2 twice as well in Games 1 and 3.
