LA GRANDE, Ore. – Freshman Bobby Hunter of Oregon Tech was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Player of the Year by a vote of the league’s head coaches, the conference office announced Monday.

The 5-10 guard from Reno, Nev. led the CCC in conference scoring average (20.0 ppg), was fourth in steals (2.31 spg) while averaging just under 32 minutes played per game. Hunter led the Owls to their fourth-straight Cascade Collegiate Conference regular-season title and automatic berth to the NAIA Men’s Division II National Tournament, March 7-15 in Point Lookout, Mo.

As the top vote-getter new to the Conference, Hunter will also receive the 2011-12 Newcomer of the Year award to add to his awards case.

John Van Dyke of Northwest University was selected the CCC’s Coach of the Year after leading the Eagles to a share of the CCC regular season crown. Northwest began the 2011-12 campaign winning their first 15 contests and have been ranked as high at 8th in the NAIA coaches’ poll just three weeks ago. Their current rank of 9th should guarantee them a spot in the National Championship field.

Others named to the 12-person All-CCC team included Adam Herman, Concordia; Erik Conrath and Jordan Carter, Corban; Jamar Johnson, Eastern Oregon; Jordan Call, Northwest; Kyle Gomez, Oregon Tech; Eric Thompson and Jordan Highland, Southern Oregon; William Sharp and Stephen Harris of Warner Pacific.

Ten players earned honorable mention All-CCC honors: Matt Ballenger, College of Idaho; Kevan West and Jourdan Sweeney, Concordia; Travares Petersen, Eastern Oregon; Patrick Lewis, Evergreen; Ahmaad Cook and Michael Greene, Northwest; Brian Hampton, Northwest Christian; and David Clarke of Oregon Tech.
