SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. - Northwest University’s sophomore forward. Michael Greene of Bellingham, Wash. (Squalicum HS) was named to the Capitol One Academic All-District First-Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) as announced by the organization's main office.

Northwest U. is in the District 8 College Division, which includes NAIA athletes from Washington, Oregon, and California, Hawaii, Alaska and Canada. Greene was joined by two other members of the Cascade Conference and two from the NAIA Division I Point Loma University. Greene was also recently named to the Cascade Conference All-Academic team for winter sports.

The 2011 Capitol One Academic All-America program, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. Candidates must have a minimum 3.3 grade point average and be a significant contributor to their team. The All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

As a First-Team Academic All-District honoree, Greene will now be placed on the Capitol One Academic All-America Team ballot.

Greene’s Northwest University team is currently tied for first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference with an 11-2 league mark and is 21-2 for the season. NU is also ranked #11 in the NAIA national coaches poll. Michael is the team’s third leading scorer averaging 11.3 points per game and is one of four players averaging double figures with two more members averaging 9 points or more per game. He averages 27.5 minutes per game.

"We are extremely proud of Michael and his accomplishments both in the classroom and on the court," commented coach John Van Dyke of the Eagles. "Michael takes pride in both areas and is willing to put in the time and make the sacrifices necessary to do so."
